Manchester Place today announced it is seeking an investment partner to work with Manchester City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to help deliver the biggest residential opportunity in the city.
The Northern Gateway vision, set out in the master plans and frameworks for the area, is to create a series of distinctive and interconnected communities, supported by high quality facilities and green spaces with walking, cycling and public transport link to the city centre nearby.
The whole Gateway opportunity could potentially support around 8,000 new homes over a 10-15 year period – offering an investment partner a transformational role working alongside public sector partners in the future growth and development of the city.
The area extends to approximately 120 hectares (300 acres) in a north eastern arc from Victoria Station, taking in the areas of NOMA, the Lower Irk Valley, New Cross and Collyhurst
We are seeking an investment partner with the financial resource, understanding and expertise together with an aligned aspiration to jointly drive forward and deliver this redevelopment.
High quality housing is key to the sustained long term economic growth of the city and we need to meet the long term needs of existing and future residents and realise the full potential of the Northern Gateway.”
Sir Howard Bernstein
Co-chair of the Manchester Place Board, Manchester City
Council Chief Executive
The long-term investment partnership will deliver the strategic objectives of the City Council and the Homes and Communities’ Agency under the Manchester Place umbrella.
The aim is to create new neighbourhoods of all tenure that offer the next residential step for people who also want to stay close to the city centre and all the amenities it has to offer.
The potential of the Irk Valley will be exploited through the provision of new and improved green spaces and corridors for walking and cycling into the city.
Manchester Place has a clear objective for a holistic approach to the comprehensive redevelopment of the area and will use its powers, resources and skills to ensure that conditions are created to enable the public and the private sector together to deliver desirable places to live close to the city centre.
The Northern Gateway is not only a major regeneration opportunity but will be a catalyst for wider inward investment into the city and is an example of how Devolution can benefit and support the city’s sustained long term growth in line with the wider Northern Powerhouse agenda. The bid process is being handled by property agents Bilfinger GVA.
This is an incredible opportunity for an investment partner to work with the public sector and deliver wholesale residential change to a key area of the city.
The potential of the Northern Gateway is huge and we will be looking for bids that can support and deliver that potential and the vision of the city.
Preliminary bids are required by June 7th and we anticipate that process will be completed in the autmn.”
Senior Director, Bilfinger GVA
